Blue Bombers Alumnus and CFL Executive Lyle Bauer conceived the Never Alone Foundation after being diagnosed with throat cancer in 2004. “When I was first diagnosed with cancer, I can tell you that in spite of family and friends, I had never felt so alone and unsure of what the future would bring,” recalled Bauer, who has since successfully fought the disease.
His experience with the disease and the support he received from friends, family, and cancer service providers inspire him to help other cancer patients to let them know that they are Never Alone.
As a national registered charity, The Never Alone Foundation has the flexibility to support many worthwhile agencies, projects and programs that aid in the fight against Cancer. Funds totaling over $800,000.00 have been donated to Cancer fighting agencies including CancerCare Manitoba, Canadian Cancer Society, Health Sciences Foundation, Camp Quality and other deserving programs.
Officially launched during the 2005 CFL Coach of the Year Luncheon, the Never Alone Foundation’s program has grown. Currently our events include the Never Alone Luncheon, Texas Hold’em Poker for a Purpose, Fish for A Cure Tournament, Wings for Warren Friends For Sure Party, as well as many others. Together with the dedicated team of volunteers, generous support of sponsors, event attendees and donations, the Foundation continues to create successful fund raising events that help in the fight against Cancer.
