Our Story

The Never Alone Foundation was conceived by Blue Bombers Alumnus and CFL Executive Lyle Bauer.  After being diagnosed with throat cancer in 2004, Lyle was committed to assist cancer sufferers and their families.“When I was first diagnosed with cancer I can tell you that in spite of family and friends, I had never felt so alone and unsure of what the future would bring,” recalled Bauer, who has since successfully fought the disease.

His experience with the disease and the support he received from friends, family, and cancer service providers inspired him  to help other cancer patients to let them know that they are Never Alone. Lyle’s vision and commitment to help others led to the creation of the Never Alone Foundation.

The Never Alone Foundation as a national  registered charity has the flexibility to support many worthwhile agencies, projects and programs to aid in the fight against Cancer. Funds totalling over $600,000.00  have been donated to Cancer fighting agencies including CancerCare Manitoba, Canadian Cancer Society, Health Sciences Foundation, Camp Quality and other deserving programs.

Officially launched in February of 2005 during the CFL Coach of the Year Luncheon, the Never Alone program has grown to include events such as the Never Alone Luncheon, Texas Holdem Poker for a Purpose, Fish for A Cure Tournament, Chase the Cure Bike Ride and numerous other events. Together with  the dedicated team of volunteers, generous support of sponsors, event attendees and donations  the Foundation continues to create numerous successful fund raising events making a significant difference in the fight against Cancer.
